INTRODUCTION

The Baseleg Ranch is located on 3.5 miles of Silver Creek and the Little Wood River just 40 miles from Sun Valley, Idaho. Originally purchased for the high quality dove hunting and flyfishing , the ranch has always been a part of Sun Valley's sporting history. On occasion, Ernest Hemingway would stop to finish his limit of doves at the ranch. Local hunting and fishing legends Dick Alfs and Ted Werry were part of the people lucky enough to frequent the duck blinds and sunflower fields for hunting and to cast flies on some of the most remote trophy trout water in the Sun Valley area.

LOCATION

The Baseleg Ranch is located just 6 miles south of Picabo, Idaho, 7 miles south of Carey, Idaho and 40 miles south of Sun Valley, Idaho. Airport service goes into Hailey just 30 miles away. The larger airports of Twin Falls and Boise are within 1 and 2 hours away respectively. The ranch also has a 2400 foot runway and hanger on site. The ranch is ideally located within easy driving distance to the tailwater section of the Big Wood River, Magic Reservoir, the Big Lost River, the Little Wood River and the upper reaches of Silver Creek, in addition to the private 3.5 miles of Silver Creek and the Little Wood that run through the property.

IMPROVEMENTS

4272 sq ft main residence that wraps around Silver Creek and one of it's waterfalls, log guest cabin, caretakers residence, garage, shop and kennel. Manicured grounds and a 60' x 95' hangar sit alongside a 2400' x 100' runway. All utilities are underground protecting all the views.

RECREATION

The Baseleg Ranch has unlimited private fishing on 3.5 miles of Silver Creek and The seasonal Little Wood River. The artesian alkaline waters produce healthy populations of both Rainbow and Brown Trout, with trophy specimens caught every year. The stream affords the angler with a lot of opportunities to catch fish not just a shot at a few large browns. The worldwide reputation of Silver Creek and the surrounding waters bring people to Idaho every year from as far away as Japan and Australia to test themselves against our selective wild trout.

The ranch has unlimited hunting opportunities and also wildlife viewing. The two lakes afford duck and goose hunting. Each impoundment has a lava stone duck blind to hunt from, and it's possible to chase them back and forth between the lakes. The dove hunting was the reason the owner bought the ranch. Large flocks of the doves come to eat the wild sunflower seeds. The ranch also sports populations of Pheasant, Chukkar, Hungarian Partridge, Sage Grouse and a few Quail. The large herds of elk, deer and antelope move about among an impressive collection of non game species and birdlife, making this more of a nature preserve than anything. The ranch owner quit hunting the ranch many years ago and picked up his camera instead.

The ranch is only 40 miles from the world class amenities of the Sun Valley area: fine dining, shopping, golf, tennis, biking, alpine and cross country skiing, hiking, and fishing. The recreational potential would make this an ideal retreat, family compound, or sporting club. With the on site runway and hangar, it opens up the chance to fly in and out of your own ranch. There is nothing like this property in Blaine County.

ACREAGE

The ranch boasts 1444 acres surrounded by Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve and BLM lands. The bulk of the ranch is managed as wildlife habitat with only a small percentage in agriculture, approx. 200 acres of high quality barley. The grounds around the houses are landscaped nicely and maintained regularly. With two individual lakes on the property, one 240 acres and the other is 4 acres, each with duck blinds, it's possible to shoot ducks coming and going between. When the ranch was toured by a prominent ecologist, she described the ranch as one of the most pristine parcels she's ever seen. All of the indicator species that illustrate the health and vibrancy of the ecosystem were present in significant numbers. Also on the property are Silver Creek's only two waterfalls. Throughout the western edge of Craters of the Moon, relics from the area's native inhabitants are scattered, giving an insight into the past through arrowheads, tools and the remaining chips from toolmaking. This is a rare opportunity to own the last pristine section of Silver Creek.
